The Missouri Department of Conservation recently announced that hunters can apply throughout July to take part in one of 145 managed hunts throughout the state this year.

According to ksdk.com, the hunts are being organized to manage the state’s booming deer population.

"There are hunts for archery, muzzleloader, shotgun, and modern firearms from mid-September through mid-January at designated conservation areas, state and other parks, national wildlife refuges, and other public areas," the department said in a press release. "Some managed deer hunts are held specifically for youth, beginning hunters, or for people with disabilities."

Hunters may apply for one managed deer hunt each year. Any hunter who applies for more than one will be disqualified and will not receive a preference point for future weighted random drawings.

Numbers of managed hunts will happen throughout the St. Louis region, including St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Franklin County. Click here to see the full list of managed hunts and where they're happening.

The random drawing results will be available from Aug. 15 to Jan. 15. Hunters must enter their conservation number to check if they won and to buy the managed deer hunting permit. Winners will receive information about the hunt and a map of the managed hunt area in the mail.
